Sacraments
Baptismal preparation is required for parents of a first child being baptized. Preparation consists of viewing a Formed video regarding this Sacrament. Baptisms are usually done following one of the weekend Masses or another time can be arranged. Please contact the Parish Office to make arrangements 620-724-8717. Specific information is needed as to the child’s full name, birth date and city of birth. The parents’ full names and who the godparents will be. At least one godparent must be a baptized Catholic. Parents requesting baptism for their child should be registered members of this parish; if not, permission is needed from their pastor in writing.
A Baptism certificate can be obtained from our records in the Parish Office. Please provide some basic information to help the secretary look up the record. We will gladly mail or e-mail the information to you or the Parish that is requesting it. An official certificate contains the seal of the Parish on it.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation restores one to God’s grace after they have sinned. Serious (mortal) sin must be forgiven before a Catholic may receive the Eucharist. Thus, most parishes offer confessions each weekend.
Confession Time: Saturday 2:00 – 2:30PM or by appointment
Everyday (venial) sins may be taken care of by a contrite heart and praying to God directly; they do not require confession. The penitential rite at the beginning of each Mass takes care of venial sins. First Reconciliation is offered to children in Grade 2 before they make their First Holy Communion.
Jesus shares the greatest gift with us, the gift of Himself in the Blessed Sacrament. This miracle occurs at every Mass when bread and wine are transformed into His Body & Blood. Catholics who are appropriately prepared to do so may receive Him in Holy Communion. The preparation for First Holy Communion takes place in Grade 2 with the event scheduled after Easter.
Mass Times:
Saturday 5:30PM
Sunday 10:00AM
Wednesday 6:30PM
Friday 7:30AM followed by Adoration until 5:00PM
Mass Intentions whereby a specific Mass is offered for the repose of someone’s soul can be obtained for a $10 donation. Contact the Parish Office to schedule a Mass intention. The scheduled intentions for each week are listed in the bulletin.
In the Diocese of Wichita, Confirmation is generally conducted for 6th & 7th graders. Our Parish schedules it every other year. If your child is older, we can include them in our event or in a nearby parish event which is normally presided over by the Bishop of Wichita.
Make an appointment with Father before setting your date of marriage at least six months in advance. Preparation for marriage takes at least six months involving an Engaged Encounter retreat, meetings with Father and a Natural Family Planning class.
If you are approaching surgery or facing significant illness, contact Father (620-724-8717 or fathervacca@gmail.com) to receive the Anointing of the Sick. The Anointing is a source of comfort and spiritual strength. We pray for healing through this Sacrament. When one is near death, the Anointing is part of the Last Rites. Last Rites are the Sacraments of Anointing of the Sick, Reconciliation and Eucharist which may be received before dying along with prayers specifically for those who are dying.
Please contact Father (620-724-8717 or fathervacca@gmail.com), as well as your mortuary, to arrange a funeral date. Advanced planning is done through a mortuary. Immediate planning with the Parish consists of choosing readings, music, identifying individuals taking part, and the number of family for a luncheon, if there is one.
There are three parts to the Funeral liturgies: an optional Vigil Service, typically consisting of viewing the body, a visitation with family and reciting a Rosary, often at a Funeral Home; the Funeral Mass held at Church; and the Graveside service held at the Cemetery. Cremation is allowed, but the Catholic Church expects the remains to be buried or interred in a mausoleum. Burial of cremated remains may be delayed to a later date.
